Hi, I’m Pat
Ryan, a long time resident of the Fairland area in
Montgomery County, and I’m asking you to make an
important choice in the April 15th Democratic
Primary in District 4. Throughout this campaign, I will
be meeting with many of you in order to understand and
make your priorities my own. Here are the things I
believe should be stressed as a member of the Montgomery
County Council from district 4:
- Protecting neighbors – I
will find ways to respond to our expanding need for police, fire, and
emergency services
- Quality education – I will
fight to keep our promises to parents, educators, and students by
maintaining recommended student-teacher ratios.
- Fiscal responsibility –
Montgomery County’s bonds are “triple A” rated, which means we pay less to
borrow. Marilyn Praisner was a leader in assuring the county maintained
this rating, and I will honor her leadership by doing no less.
- Workforce housing – I will
push for innovative ways (such as establishing a non-profit housing
development authority) to solve the paradox of an increasing workforce but a
shrinking supply of workforce housing.
- Ensuring the best for our senior
population – Senior citizens have earned their place in this county and
expect stable taxes and first-class services. I will work to improve access
to health care and housing which meets their needs.
- Environmental stewardship –
The County’s open and green spaces are an irreplaceable heritage that must
be preserved.
- Address further traffic
congestion – Traffic congestion is projected to increase in most of
county. I will push investment in transit infrastructure such as the Purple
Line which will relieve some of the traffic on our local roads.
- Welcoming newcomers – Our
community grows and prospers as we welcome new neighbors, often from other
nations. I will seek ways to forge greater bonds between newcomers and
established residents.
